Chapter 27

AKASH

Of late the ships carrying the drugs were being surveyed by the authorities. Thus for a few months after an entire cargo worth 6 million dollars had been confiscated and the owner put behind bars, Akash realized it was safer to avoid smuggling by ships for a while till the heat cooled off.

His contacts in Turkey had proposed a plan used every day by drug cartels across the world.

Mules. They were people, normal looking folk, who carried drugs either on their person or in their baggage.

They were rarely suspected by the police.

At present there were two of them, both Americans. One of them was Mandy who was a blond and the other was Simone, a curly haired black.

They were both night club dancers and would do anything for a quick buck.

Without their heavy war paint, they looked clean and well-scrubbed.

Both the girls carried the drugs in their luggage, carefully concealed in the lining of their luggage.

Since they had never been caught before, they were above suspicion. They succeeded in bringing 17 million dollars’ worth of heroin from Turkey.

This carried on for 6 months.

Mandy’s boyfriend was a thief and a thorough bastard. When he learnt of her affair with the night club owner, he decided to take revenge. He gave a tip off to the cops.

Mandy was detained while trying to board a plane to Mumbai (India).

She was arrested after the drugs were found and faced 3 to 5 years’ imprisonment.

Simone became wary and tried to get out of the business. But as the old saying goes, once you are in, there rarely a way out.

She was forced to continue her role as a mule and this went on for a year.

Then after a tip off she too was arrested and put in jail too.

By this time the heat had worn off and the cargo began arriving on a new cruise ship called ‘Black Star Liner’.

It was above suspicion and ferried loads of cocaine, heroin and marijuana. The authorities were in the dark and so business went on as usual.

Mules were still used for drugs and each year new recruits were hired. They only dealt with a middleman and had no idea of the bosses of the drug cartels.

At present two English girls Rosie and Samantha were the mules. They both had cute blonde looks and were above suspicion.

Of course it was only a matter of time before the authorities got wise and pounced on them. This happened mainly due to tip offs or because of the frequent flights had to take, too often to the same place inviting suspicion.

Akash could relax now. Millions of dollars of drugs were pouring in. He grew more wealthy by the minute.

He had indeed come a long way from the young boy from Uttar Pradesh who had once only imagined being a poor farmer. If he had stuck on, that would have been his life.

Funny how fate steps in and changes everything. He still prided himself on his God fearing ways. Every time money poured in, he did a puja to his favourite god, Lord Ganesh in thanksgiving.
